In British service, the lend-lease American P-40 fighter was known as the ‘Kittyhawk’.

The Desert Air Force used their Kittyhawks as effective fighter-bombers, diving on their targets, dropping 500 lb bombs with deadly precision. Should the opportunity present itself, their six .50 cal machine-guns were deadly when strafing troops caught in the open.
